Your hair is the weakest when wet, so never rub your hair dry with a towel.  You want to blot the wetness out with the towel and let it air dry the rest of time.  If your not blow drying your hair and if you are using heat  there are a number of really good heat protect-ants on the market to reduce heat damage.
